Written 27th December and recorded on the 30th December 2014 after a conversation over the Crimble period that played again and again in my head – this was the result of how the information was processed.
The backing track used is from a cool site I found on YouTube called UnfinishedSongs – in a nutshell, these guys upload tracks and invite people to make their own songs, for free, as long as they give credit and tag (fair does). It’s a bit of a social experiment to see how many different song types would come back from each simple backing track. As I play no instrument, I luuurrrvvvvveeee these tracks for inspiration and have spent many a happy day sitting in my bathroom (acoustics dah-ling) writing songs and making melodies to fit their tracks. It is my downtime pleasure and outlet to thoughts, it is my favourite waste of time.
Without further a do, the lyrics and, for once, the idea of the song in an actual video reality, can I get an oooohhh! This is the first time I’ve ever shared the noise behind the writing, so please play nice 😉
Recorded on an Mac Book Pro, basic mic using Garage Band
Lights
V1
Broken
Who switched the light off in your eyes?
Who took away the hints of mischief from the sides of your smile?
Who turned the lights off?
Wounded
With your cut open an’ bleeding mind
Drowning in the rivers of the tears that you cried
Br
Oh my boy, what broke your soul?
What is it that cursed your mind?
Take my hand, oh my boy, let me walk you from the dark to the light
Ch
He went off to war an enthusiastic boy
Ready to serve Queen and country
Then he came back home a shell of a man
Hurt, angry, lonely an’ empty
An’ I don’t know how to make it right
Don’t know the answer to this one
But forever I’ll be by standing your side
I’ll help you switch the lights back on
I’ll help switch the lights back on
V2
Convoluted
A mixture of dreams and nightmares in your thoughts
Haunted
By the faces and eyes that are no more
You’re in turmoil
Please let me help you out
I won’t judge, I have you
We’re from the blood of the same great man
Br
Oh my boy, what broke your soul?
What is it that cursed your mind?
Take my hand, oh my boy, let me walk you from the dark to the light
Ch
He went off to war an enthusiastic boy
Ready to serve Queen and country

Hurt, angry, lonely an’ empty
An’ I don’t know how to make it right
